Demodectic Mange???
Your vet should be dipping the dog with a special dip. If he hasnot offered this to you, find another vet!
Reply:There are 2 methods to get rid of Demodectic mange, 1 are the dips your vet does and the other is giving Ivomec daily. Ask your vet which would be best for your Weimaraner. If he has secondary infections he also needs an antibiotic..
Reply:Hi, the dog my hubby brought home for me had demodex mange and before we could get her to the vet it had become generalized %26amp; she had a secondary skin infection !! it seemed to happen over-night ! FROM EXPERIENCE dont wait too long to long to get to the vet. And its NOT cheap for treatment either. We maxed out our CareCredit vet charge card at $1,000. All on Mitaban dips, skin scrapings, anti-biotics. WE WAITED TOO LONG, dont make the same mistake we did for your pups sake. The larger the dog the more it costs for treatment. Our mutt was 85 pounds then.

But it all was worth it, she is fine now and its been 6 months and we are still mite free !

There is a website listed in the box below with alot of good information on demodex mange, some home remedies for treatment.

This is what you DONT want your dog to look like.....please go to the vet!

Reply:It is not "cureable", but can be managed and controlled.

We had a foster dobe come to us in horrible condition do to Demodicosis. Patchy, splotchy coat, itching all the time. Feet were bare and had sores where she'd chewed on them. My vet put her on Ivomec (Ivomectine) daily. It was a good 3 months before she started showing signs of improvement. She has since been placed in a forever home under "special needs" because of this. She still gets Ivomec treatments, but she is down to just a weekly treatment to keep it under control, but she no longer has bald spot on her neck or chest or chewed up feet.

If you are using a dip, yes, there will be secondary skin problems.
Reply:I had a foster which had demodectic mange, and I tried all kinds of things. I gave extra Vit. C, Vit. E, Salmon Oil (for Omega 3's) and other immune system boosters.

I finally tried my last resort and switched her to a raw prey model diet. Within 3-4 weeks, she had cleared up and her hair grew back. I fed her 80% meat, 10% edible bone, and 10% organ, along with the Omega 3's from the Salmon Oil.

Please consider trying a raw prey model diet before you give in and stress her out with all those chemical dips or large amounts of meds which could cause more harm than good.

Good luck, and if you'd like to know more, feel free to e-mail me.
Reply:I have a Boston bull that had the same thing came from a lousy immune system, all dogs are born with it. Here's the cure: Ivermectin (available at feed store) orally each day for 12 weeks (get proper dosage from Vet), this is a nasty drug, DON'T OVERDOSE! Shampoo with Malaseb (available at Vet only) twice to three times a week, this shampoo NEEDS to stay on dog for 10 minutes. BE aggressive don't skip dosages or baths. PS Ivermectin also prevents heart worms, Heartguard not needed when using.

Trace has a clean skin scrape now, his coat is glossy black no more hair loss......Yeah
Reply:The dog has sometimes be stay that way because you willwaste money
