What will be easiest on my dog?

We had our check-up today, and Shasta's dehydrated, so the vet gave me an IV bag %26amp; a bunch of needles to take home. Twice a day I have to give her a skin-pop (street slang) drip of like 200 something or other (mLs, maybe?) Since she lost so much weight while she was sick, it's pretty easy to bunch up some skin to poke her, so that's no problem.

What I want to know is:

Is it better to poke her in the same general area each time, or should I kind of work my way down her back as I go? I mean, the poke is uncomfortable, I know, but when that cold fluid gets going, it bothers her. Then she's sitting with a virtual water balloon under her skin, so I'm sure it's more than just a bloated feeling. Would it be easier on her to move the bubble site, or keep sticking %26amp; filling the same area?

What will be easiest on my dog?
You've been through such an ordeal with your baby! When I've had to hydrate my dogs, I used the same area, but poked just a little to the side, and swiched sides each time. My vet said this would help them from 'springing a leak'. But you can sure warm the fluid....If it is just normal saline you can microwave it until just cooler than your body temperature. If it has other nutrients in it, then put the bag in a warm pan of water until it is luke warm. Always keep the top of the bag out of the water. Before you give her the 'drip' massage the area a bit. This will help it accept the fluid easier. You can also apply warm compresses to the site to ease soreness.
Reply:Well, that was dumb. after that hyphen is supposed to be the letter A Report It

Reply:DAMN IT first letter of the alphabet!

This is getting ridiculously RETARDED Report It

Reply:Umm ok Report It

Reply:My suggestion: move it. After many injections, veins become raw and can even shut down. Ask your vet though. be careful.
Reply:That would be a better question for your vet. In my eyes, move it down up whichever. so your not hurting her in the same spot. How would you like to be poked in the same spot with a needle in the same spot over and over?
Reply:Chetco's right, move the needle stick, but not the area. I also warm the fluid, but I never use the microwave. I know it is supposed to be safe, but I worry about hot spots. Make sure you shake the bag really well.
