My lab and his skin?

I give up!!! My lab who I adore is driving us nuts!! He has been to vet after vet and continues to scratch.. He does not have fleas.. we have changed his diet.. (several times) , tried steriods you name it.. nothing is working.. He has two big spots right now.. (one on his back and one at the base of his tail) They bleed and weep and he chews away. I know he is misreble but I just don't know what else to try. Has anyone else had this problem? And what worked for your dog?

My lab and his skin?
Introduction

Many dogs acquire dry, itchy skin that ultimately leads to broken skin and sores. Vets and dog owners often use hydrocortisone ointments or steroid injections to treat the problem. There is an easier and better solution for the dog. This solution will also improve the dog’s general health by giving him or her omega 3 and antioxidant supplement.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need

Unflavored liquid cod liver oil

Wheat germ oil (liquid)

Olive oil

Small bottle or salad cruet

Steps

1Step OneMix about 4 ounces of cod liver oil with 5 ounces of wheat germ oil and 2-3 ounces of olive oil (you may also use canola or peanut oil if you have them on hand.)

2Step TwoPour into dispenser. I like to use a salad cruet as a dispenser, but you can use any clean bottle.

3Step ThreeFor a medium sized dog, (30-70 pounds) at one meal each day, sprinkle one teaspoon of this solution onto the dog’s food, whether it is kibble or canned food. The dog will usually like the taste of the fish oil and wheat germ oil). Dogs like just about anything oily.

4Step FourWithin two or three weeks you should notice a great improvement in the condition of the dog’s coat. It will be shiny and healthy looking and the skin won’t be dry.
Reply:post your country and what food you are on and what you have tried...

none of the foods from grocery or Wal Mart will be any good

most often none from big box stores will be good either

you generally need to go to a smaller independant store or dog groomer and read the lables

avoid - wheat. corn, pork, beef, soy, by-products, meat meal and animal fat (both are mystery foods and can be ANY dead animal)

generally LAMB and RICE is considered hypor allergenic but some Lamb and RICE products have allergins in them (eg%26gt; Science Diet still has other allergins in it)

in Canada I like NUTRAM

also use a STAINLESS STEEL BOWL (never plastic)
Reply:It's a common problem and so frustrating. Try adding a tablespoon of liquidised spinach to his food on a daily basis. Look up Bob Grasses (I think that's it) skin ointment, I've heard that is fantastic. Try Fit and Fertile powder. You should be able to find them on the internet but if you have a problem let me know and I'll find the details I have. Don't try everything at once or you won't know what's working, start with the spinach that could be enough and should work quite quickly ie in a week or so.

Good luck
Reply:My lab also had allergies to food and he would scratch his nose alot and the hair would fall off, at this point its trial and error, keep a list of things that he does have reactions to and doesn't have reactions too. I found the slightly more expensive food from Nutram was good, lamb and rice for large dogs.

Labs I found tend to also have allergies to alot of soft dog treats so I just kept him on hard dry biscuits. I found it frustrating because of the treats I wanted to give him, I couldn't because it would cause him to have the runs. Its a very common thing among labs, good luck
