Extremely smelly 8yr old male shepard....need remedy?

My dog has a terribly offensive odor and it doesn't seem to go away but for a very short time after bathing. He has a lot of dander lately and am concerned he might have a skin problem or an infection of somekind...please help

Extremely smelly 8yr old male shepard....need remedy?
Try going to http://earthclinic.com and do some reading on the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for pets {and humans too}, it cleans and deoderizes your pet. Also check out the remedies for skin conditions there for your dog as well.
Reply:You should have the dog examined by the vet. He could have various conditions that cause this. Or if you want to try going it alone for a bit. Buy medicated shampoo. not the cheap stuff but something with real medication. One with coal tar is good if the dog is very itchy and full of dandruff.

best of luck,
Reply:get the dog examined by da vet ......often giv a bath but c dat u fully take da shampoo out mayb dats y he's geting danderuff n also give chewsticks
Reply:hi, if i were you 1st i would take the dog to the vet first to see if the dog has an underlying skin problem, if not, try not to bathe your dog so often as bathing dogs often is really not a great idea, unless stated by the vet with a medicated shampoo, have you tried some medicated shampoo ? you could try this before you take him to the vets, sometimes this will help, the only other explanation could be the food you are feeding it, try changing the food, but old dogs generally are quite smelly and its what all us dog owners have to put up with for a time. . . keep his bed clean also, that could help. hope this helps. jane.
Reply:Double check his dog food. Is he eating a premium senior formula? No by products or corn? Make sure there's no wheat also. He could have developed an allergy and Wheat is the #1 culprit for skin allergies.

If you're bathing often that would also contribute to the odor causing dry skin and irritation.

Check his ears and make sure he doesn't have an ear infection and that's where the smell may be coming from. If not then he could have some kind of skin infection.

Talk to your vet - there may be a topical solution.

Good Luck
