Ants in Grass Biting Dog!?

My house has a severe ant problem (the former owners forewarned me). I can usually keep them at bay w/ vinegar, salt, etc. inside. And, I've used boiling water on the mounds outside, tho it is not great for the grass. My biggest concern is they bite my dog like crazy when she's out romping in the yard. She already has about a dozen bites on her legs %26amp; shoulders, and the ant season is just starting! I may try throwing instant grits or cornmeal all over the yard...any problem for the grass or birds? I know if you "season" your dog's food w/ garlic powder, it gets into the skin, and can repeal mosquitoes. Has anyone had any success w/ food supplements for this problem? Thanks!

if the ants keep biting spray some prapellant on the dog they might hate it but it will help alot my dog had the same problem.
Reply:Food supplements and other remedies to prevent mosquito bites tend to change the smell or taste of their blood so that mosquitos wont want to bite.

It seems that the ants are biting for defense, not for food, so I don't think these types of remedies would help in your situation.
Reply:When we moved into our new home we had a sever ant problem. I recommend getting a liquid ant bait trap.
Reply:If you're talking about fire ants, probably the only way you're going to take care of it is to treat the entire yard for them, with a chemical made for killing fire ants. We have the same problem, so this year I'm trying "Over 'n Out" on the yard.

Instant grits and cornmeal don't work - they're urban legends.

Reply:I am not real sure about how to get rid of them but be really careful because they can bite your pet so much that they can have an allergic reaction to them. My sister's yorkie did and she almost died. Good Luck!
Reply:Put him/her in house!!!!
