Ok, I need to get my dog to gain weight and get more muscular?

I feed him a lot, but you see since he's a Doberman Pinscher he loves to run a lot too. What kinds of foods should I buy for him that will help him gain more weight? And what more activity should I do with him to get him more muscular? I walk him, bike him(he loves to pull my bike along[I am a normal girl weight by the way]), I jog him, run him, what more can I do? Is there also anything I can do to help him with his fur? Like he has some dandruff problems, not that much of dry skin, and has some mosquito bites I'd like to get rid of? He also tends to pass gas? Some said it was his diet or lack of water? I give him a lot of water its ridiculous. So that can't be it. Do you think I should make him excersize more? Please and thank you. I really love my dog and want him to grow and look great and be healthy. Thanks very much. And he's a male Doberman Pinscher who is 3-4 yrs old. Is there also some type of lotion or spray I can give him to get rid of the mosquito bites? Thank you so much.

Dobermans are a lean breed. Do not over feed him.

The dandruff and so called "misquito bites" are something you need to speak with your Vet about.

I doubt that you know what they are, so please take your dog to a Vet.

Ask your Vet these questions.
Reply:If you honestly think he is underweight you could try feeding him puppy chow. That is what I did with my Greyhound/Dane mix when I first got her. She was very malnourished however. You may want to consider a high quality high energy dog food like the one made by Nutro. It did wonders for my dog's muscle build and coat.
Reply:Dandruff problems

Dry skin

Pass gas

What are you feeding him?
Reply:He is 3-4 years old so the likelyhood of him developing any more real mass is not real high. Dry coat has nothing to do with 'water' or lack of... it has to do with diet and lack of good nutrition. So does his lack of weight and muscle tone. You need to be sure and have him checked by the vet for worms - intestinal as well as heart worms as they are spread by mosquitos and if he isn't on preventative (and sometimes even if he is) he could get them.. but until he has a clean bill of health, you won't know. Also while at the vet's have them draw blood to send off to one of the veterinary university labs for a complete thyroid panel so that isn't what might be causing his problems.

Feed him a good quality dog food -- you didn't say what you were feeding but likely others have suggested some. I feed Canidae and my dogs stay in pretty good condition with it and the only supplement we use is 'Missing Link' which honestly I havent' had problems without but it makes me feel better to give it :) My dogs don't get a ton of exercise but the still have good muscle tone and weight and are in hard condition. There are a number of thins you can use for the mosquitoes -- if you use K-9 Advanix for other external parasite control, it also is useful against mosquitoes. You can spray a dilute mixture of Avon Skin So Soft -- usually at least one part SSS to ten parts water -- this tends to repeal mosquitoes as well.

Passing gas tends to be symptomatic of difficulty digesting and likely lets you know that he food he is eating isn't that good for him. There are a number of good foods out there for dogs, Canidae, California Natural, Innova, etc.. But the health check would be the first place to start to make sure you aren't feeding parasites.

Add: BTW, the dog should have access to plenty of clean water at all times.
Reply:For starters, what do you feed him... That could give me a clue how to answer the rest as food is the most important factor in dogs physical health. I'll come back when you answer....
