My dog is the pickiest eater?

He has the itchy dry skin from another question. The only dof food I have found that he will eat is that play doh stuff called moist and meaty.Hes so picky.I have tryed every kind of dog food. He doesnt like meat and loves vegetables like carrots. He is a begger and I have stopped giving him treats. The problem has gotten worse with age too.Hes 5. I also only give him a bath once a month but sometimes twice. It gets worse the longer the length in between baths. He doesnt have fleas.

My dog is the pickiest eater?
He definitely has food allergies. The food you are feeding is probably the worst you could give him. Of course he eats it, kids would eat nothing but junk food if you let them.

Keep reading, I'll mention a surefire way to get him to eat.

Look here: naturapet.com

They have the best most natural food available right now. Innova EVO will fix him right up. They also have a supplement called California Natural skin and coat. Works wonders. I have a very allergic dog and I can't be more pleased with these products.

Look into Wellness, Avoderm, and Artemis. All are great.

When you switch food, do it gradually over a week. Sudden diet changes cause upset tummies. If he vomits or has diarrhea, slow the switching process.

OK. Now, to get him to eat, you have to set a STRICT schedule. Two meals a day, morning and evening. No snacks.

Put the food down and show him. Leave it for 20 minutes, then pick it up. IF HE DOESN'T EAT, HE GOES HUNGRY UNTIL THE NEXT MEAL. It will probably take twice for him to realize he needs to get while the getting is good. It seems harsh but it is the best thing for him. You need him eating good food that won't make him itch.

Don't cave!!! He knows at this point, that if he doesn't eat what you put out, you will give him something better. You have to be firm and patient. Most dogs can go a day or 2 without eating and be just fine. Wait him out. You won't be sorry.

Good luck
Reply:My dog is a Shi-tzu and she has itchy, flaky dry skin too. ask your vet if he/she has any special shampoo or conditioner for you to use during your pets bath. She loves carrots and vegetables and also only eats the moist and meaty stuff. we just give her vegatables with a little potatoes, or whatever we have left over, as long as its healthy and not too fattening. we give her moist and meaty on occasion, but you'd be surprised how unhealthy all dog foods are for dogs.dont worry, they all beg.
Reply:Give him the food that will keep him healthiest. If he doesn't eat it, take the bowl away and give it to him again at the next meal. Keep doing this until he eats it. Dogs aren't stupid. If he knows begging will get him what he wants, he'll do it until he realizes it's not working. Bottom line, he won't go on a hunger strike. If he's hungry, he'll eat. Just be patient, and don't freak out if he goes several meals without eating. Dogs can go as long as a week without food if they have to. Yours probably won't wait that long.

Reply:It's very possible your dog has food allergies. The most common ingredients in dog food that dogs are allergic to are corn, wheat and soy. My lab is allergic to all 3. Read the ingredient list on that food you got him. Corn is probably one of the first 5 ingredients. My dogs eat AvoDerm Specialty. It is one of several holistic dog foods available. You will probably have to stay away from foods sold in grocery stores...try a Petsmart, Petco, Vitamin Cottage or high-end specialty pet store in your area.

Also, keep in mind that the more you bathe your dog, the itchier his skin will be. Bathing strips the skin of moisture. Bathing too frequently can make the problem worse.
Reply:ill add just more thing on top of the quality diet.

Add salmon oil to your food.
