My DOG has thrush????

My and my baby went through a horrible bout of thrush about a month ago we finally kicked it in the butt.

Now I think my little dog (chihuahua) may have it on her skin. She used to sleep in my bed with me, Some people think it's gross, I know... But she's not allowed anymore, because of this, and for other hygeine reasons. I am pretty sure that's the problem, as she suddenly has itchy, flaky dry red skin, in patches around her back, shoulders, legs and belly. Pretty much all over. I cannot afford the vet's bill as it will be $150 + just to walk into the office, plus I am a little nervous that the vets will not understand the circumstances I feel led to this.

Now, I want to know, if I bathe her and put Gentian Violet on her (like I did for myself and baby when we had it) will this help at all?? Also, has anyone else had to deal with thrush/yeast on their family pet? HOW DID YOU COPE?

My poor doggie is very uncomfortable and itchy, I have been putting shirts on her...

My DOG has thrush????
I don't know if there is a connection between human thrush and a dog having the mange. It sounds more like the dog has the mange. Some dogs have an allergic reaction to something (even fleas) and they get places like this on them. Best thing would be to take your dog to the vet and have them diagnose and treat whatever is wrong with it. We had a Toy Spitz when I was younger and she got something called Red Mange. It looked horrible. She lost all the hair on her back and it was one big running sore. The vet gave us a bottle of a special shampoo (very expensive) and that helped her. Good luck and I hope that the little poochie gets better soon.
Reply:I don't know your answer, but if you had posted this in pets or something totally different than here. Good luck!!
Reply:Gentian violet shouldn't hurt your Chihuahua, bit if it doesn't 'help' your dog may have 'mange' or a 'dietary insufficiency' or it could simply be that your 'home' isn't 'humid' enough and the dog's skin is 'too dry' because of that. If it's 'mange' or a 'dietary insufficiency' you will need to go to the Vet ... but try giving your dog a bath in Gentian violet 'as directed' every other day for a week, and 'increase the humidity' in your house by putting 'bowls of water around' in each room ... and be sure that your dog has a nice 'soft, thick place to sleep' ... she may be getting the 'dry skin' because she's not sleeping in your bed any more and she's 'rubbing against something hard and scratchy' ...
