My dogs ears are disgusting they smell horrible to. what can i do to stop the smell?
It's probably yeast. You just have to clean it out and put rubbing alcohol into the ears three or four times a day to kill the yeast fungus for a couple of weeks. If that doesn't solve the problem, you need a vet to take a scraping to identify the problem. Most ear issues are simply yeast. It will grow back, so you have to clean them with rubbing alcohol once or twice a week to prevent further infections.

There are other over the counter products to kill yeast such as lotrimin cream or monostat cream, but rubbing alcohol is the cheapest and easily available.
Reply:The smell and the gunk is an indication of a bad ear infection. Vet. Today. No choice. He needs antibiotics and a professional to clean the ear canal.
Reply:Well, you're going to have to beg, borrow or steal the money to take him to the vet. It sounds like he's got an ear infection, and as you can tell by him scratching enough to make them bleed, it's extremely painful! And yes, dogs can have allergies - usually to their food.
Reply:He has ear infection, please take him to the vet, he need antibiotics, after he's cured take him to the groomer once a month to have his ears cleaned
Reply:Sounds like ear mites - Off to the vet you go!
Reply:Your dog obviously has an ear infection or mites - you TAKE HIM TO THE VET - now.

His skin allergies also require treatment, why would you let your poor dog suffer like this when these things can be cured easily enough with the right medications?

Take him to the vet!!!!

The smell bothers you?????? The itching and infection bother your poor dog a lot more.
Reply:well you clearly need to clean his ears!!!! it could cause infection (if it hasnt already), and then he will defiently need vet care!! products from a store wont do much at all, this dog needs a vet visit. you need to keep up on cleaning the ears, dogs with floppy ears need cleaning more often, they are more prone to getting infections, because they dont get air up in them, such as a dog with ears that stand, wont get infections very much. get my point? most vets will work with you, u can make payments. goo luck...
Reply:You MUST take him to the vet. He definetly has an ear infection. It shouldn't be that expensive to get some ointment for it from the vet. If you can't afford to take care of the dog, you shouldn't have one. He's suffering...
Reply:Alot of dog grooming places will have ear drops that you can use that will help alot.
Reply:your dog MUST go to the vet. the ear could have mites, bacterial infection or a fungal infection or all three. The ONLY way to properly treat is vet.

Vet will swab the ear, put under the scope and treat for what is needed.

if you do not take care of this, the eardrum can perforate... it is extremely painful.

please, get the dog to the vet.

you need to have the vet look at skin, also.

there is NO way for people here to diagnose health problems... vet is the only way!

EDIT note: Do NOT put anything in the ear or clean the ear canal yourself. Most people don't know how to do this properly and can cause additional problems. Once the ear is cleaned, please ask the vet how to maintain that.
Reply:Take it to the vet as soon as you can. It is an ear infection. His ear probably hurts really bad.
Reply:Sounds like ear mites. There is a medication at the pet store for ear mites, but if that doesn't work he will have to see a vet for anti-bios for infection. This is no a life threatening problem. The brown stuff is mite **** by the way!!
Reply:Call the vet and tell them what the problem is they might be able to give you some advise, but I doubt it , it sounds like he has a bad ear infection and he may be allergic to something in the house. My dog is allergic to fleas, she gets one on her and her hair falls out she is also allergic to dog shampoos and carpet freshening sprinkles. I have to buy a special shampoo for her that doesn't contain soap. Just think of you dog as your child. Would you let your child suffer and not take them to the Dr? Your dog is suffering and you don't have much of a choice.Tell the vet that you cant really afford it and they might work with you on making payments, although it shouldn't cost too much, don't try to clean his ears your self, there is a special way it needs to be done and you may damage his ears even more.
Reply:This sounds like a yeast infection in your dogs ears!!!! You need to call the vet. and ask them to give you a prescription for this! You can also get a solution from the vet. that you need to clean his ears out with, before you use the yeast infection medicine!! It is very, very uncomfortable for him, so you need to do it as soon as possible!! Good Luck, I hope this helps!!!!
Reply:Dogs can be allergic to all kinds of things.

You must get your dog vet care. The poor thing is suffering horribly.

Your local humane society/aspca offers reduced cost vet clinics.

Contact them and ask.

Contact several vets in your area and ask about payment plans.

Do not wait. You can cause your dog permanent damage by not treating what sounds like a bad infection. Ear infections feel to them as bad as they do to us.
Reply:He could have mites or some kind of infection. He should go to the vet, most vets would be willing to work out a payment plan, or contact your local shelter, they usually know some low cost vets. I've also heard, but never tried my self, that equal parts vinager and water can help clear out the ears. I know that when I was little my parents used peroxide to clean out my ears when they were full of wax, but I would check somewhere before trying that with a dog, as they aren't humans. As far as his skin, does he have hot spots (they are like patches where the fur is gone and they look kinda pinkish - at least thats what they were with my cats, dogs shouldn't be too much different)? My cats got them because they were allergic to fleas and we were having a lot of trouble with fleas at the time. She was given steriods to get rid of them, but the hot spots were considered an allergic reaction
Reply:THE EAR PROBLEM SOUNDS LIKE AN EAR INFECTION. I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING THAT BABY TO THE VET. AND YES DOGS CAN BE ALLERGIC TO DUST. THE LONGER YOU WAIT THE WORSE OFF ITS GONNA GET.
Reply:Just to reinforce what everyone is saying VET. NOW. Your dog is in obvious pain, and yet you're going to deny him medical attention. Irresponsible. If you can't afford the vet then surrender him to a local shelter.
Reply:Find a friend or family member who can loan you some money and work out a payment plan with them.

Get this dog to a vet. It's obviously a bad ear infection, possibly ear mites.

Also, talk to your vet and see if they can work out a payment plan with you. Believe it or not, they may be willing to. You don't know until you ask.

Also, look into Care Credit. It will help you pay for big emergency vet bills. This way you won't be on YA saying you don't have money for a vet when your dog obviously needs one.

Here is the link...http://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/whycc.h...

Good luck
Reply:That used to happen to my dog all the time. He MUST go to the vet. It is probably a yeast infection in his ears. You wouldn't be able to clean them yourself. Some vets offer payment plans. Call around.
Reply:As everyone else has stated time and again..

VET!

Take your dog into the vet, most vets will work out a payment plan to care for your dog. (Provided you have the shots for your dog...)

This brown gunk is puppy ear wax, dirt, possibly ear mites, possibly an infection.

Mites will make your dog scratch.....scratching will cause little tears in the flesh of the ear, which in turn causes an infection.

Please please please, do not attempt to clean his ears at home. I have seen so many dogs made deaf by people that didn't know what they were doing.

Also, as stated below, you shouldn't own a dog if you can't properly care for him/her. He can end up deaf from the things mentioned by everyone. Animals are like children...you shouldn't have them if you can't financially, physically and mentally care for them. I'm not trying to slam you, its just a fact of life Hon.

Return a Christmas present you've already purchased and take your dog to the Vet. A member of your family is more important than expensive presents anyday. (Would you make your child suffer with an illness so he/she could have that Wii?) Don't do it to your pet either.........

Good luck and God Speed
Reply:Sounds like he either has a bad ear infection or he has ear mites. Start by getting some over the counter ear mite treatments and some ear cleaner. Clean his ears out with the cleaner and a 100% cotton ball. Synthetic cotton balls will irritate the inner ear. Once it's clean use the ear mite treatments . You may need to clean the ear several days in a row for an ear infection. If it lasts more than three days go to the vet.
Reply:THE ONLY CURE IS TO SEE A VET FOR ANTIBIOTICS.POOR DOG, SHAME ON YOU THAT U CAN'T GIVE YOUR DOG A VET VISIT FOR SOME MED'S.MAYBE YOU DON'T NEED A DOG IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE IT TO A VET.
Reply:Here is something you can do while you are trying to come w/the money to take him to the vet. This article is by a veterinarian who offers home solutions for you but you must take him to the vet as soon as you can since chronic ear infections can cause deafness. As for him not letting you clean them - you are in charge and he needs to know that you are going to do this whether he likes it or not - if he is too big for you find a friend to help but remember to be gentle, soft spoken, yet firm

I was woken up early this morning with Lewis my dog shaking is head. I peaked into his right ear and found black debris, and a sweetish smelling odor..

Likely a yeast infection.

SOLUTIONS:

CLEAN THEM. White vinegar (acetic acid) is very effective at removing debris from the ears and killing the yeast and bacteria

responsible for ear infections. Dilute the vinegar with water 50:50, pick up a syringe from your local pharmacy and put 5ml of the vinegar solution per 20lbs of body weight into the affected ear. Grab the ear where it

attaches to the head (at the ear base), gently squeeze your thumb and forefinger together, rubbing the solution deep into the ear canals.

Wipe the inside of the ear well with cotton balls to remove debris coming from the ear canal. Continue to do this daily for 5-7 days.

For dogs with recurring infections, this can be done weekly.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Lewis is not really fond of Vinegar, so I used a very diluted amount of Vinegar (a 25% solution) and I happen to have a syringe which I flushed his ears with..LOTS of black debris

LESSEN THE INFLAMMATION. Most ear infections produce red, inflamed ears,

so it is important to decrease the inflammation. Aloe or Calendula essential oil can be applied topically in the ears twice daily to decrease inflammation.

The outside of Lewis' ear is somewhat red so I cracked Off a part of my Aloe

Plant and rubbed it on his ear.

TREAT THE INFECTION. Garlic, Sage and Thyme have antibacterial and antifungal

properties. One treatment is to soak garlic cloves overnight with Calendula oil. Remove the garlic and instill the calendula-garlic mixture twice daily.

Lewis was still shaking his head after the cleaning, so I crushed some garlic in

Olive Oil and instilled a small amount into his ear..The oil seemed to have a nice soothing effect

This does tell me that I have to get at the root of Lewis' problem.

I will have to at least clean his ears weekly, and look into a diet change.

ALLERGY DIET. For dogs that get recurring ear infections it is important to try a less allergenic diet. It should include a completely different protein with minimal added ingredients. One example commercial diet is

made of fish and sweet potato. See the FOOD ALLERGIES section for recipes for homemade diets.

BIOFLAVANOIDS. These are the wonderful group of structures found in the pigment of fruits and vegetables. Quercetin has been effective for people with allergies and may be effective in dogs. The dose is 25mg per 10 lbs of body weight daily.

FATTY ACIDS. These are a must for any allergy that triggers recurring ear infections. Flax for dogs (1 tsp per cup of dog food)

VITAMIN C. This may help your pet, and is worth a try. It suppresses the product released from cells in the body that causes itching (histamine). Start with a low dose of 100mg twice daily per 10 lbs of body weight.
Reply:More then likely he is allergic to something in his food. First, you should take him to the vet or a groomer to have his ears cleaned and the infection taken care of. It's obvious he is in discomfort and if you let the infection go and he keeps scratching and shaking his head he could get an aural hemotoma which would cost more money in the long run. If you absolutely won't take him to the vet (I seriously urge you to do so, even though you don't think you can afford it), you must, must find a way to clean his ears. You can buy an ear cleaner which should have thorough instructions. To get rid of the infection, you can use Colloidal Silver which is a natural antibiotic. You can find it any GNC. You can put the colloidal directly in the ear, wipe the inner part of the ear and also add a few drops to his water. The next thing you should do is change his diet. I would recommend a healthy, all natural food that is made specifically for dogs with allergies. My brand of choice is Wellness, but there are several others available. Please check my page on natural dog foods for more info:

Reply:stop smelling ur dogs ears
Reply:you have to make him let you clean them its very important that you clean his ears he could go deaf if they are not cleaned and yes dogs do get allergies start giving him half of a benedryl in the morning and the other half at night it should help him and then buy some hot spot shampoo that will help with his skin problem
