Dog's paw very swollen and unable to walk on it?

my dog has had mild wheat allergies for sometime now.. we tried to keep her from eating it in foods but she always gets into the cat food despite trying to stop her. it didn't seem to cause her too much of a problem and then all of the sudden she broke out in skin ulcers.. i washed them with soap and water and they seemed to ease. i changed her to a wheat free, corn free high quality food and hid the cat food, assuming the skin irriation would go down... the next morning the pads on her paws are huge and swollen and she cannot walk. i have no clue what is going on. i am seriously considering taking her to the vet if this does not subside soon.. in the meantime.. any ideas as to what this could be from? is this dangerous if it caused by a food allergy? thanks for any help

You should not wait to take your dog to the Vet. Your dog is very uncomfortable, if not in pain.

Until you can get her to a Vet, try a warm compress, and keep her off her feet.

Put socks on her feet to keep her from licking at them.

Do get her to a Vet though.
Reply:You do not need to wait to take her to the vet, you need to take her immediately.

It might not even be from the food, usually food allergies just cause itchy paws so the severly swollen paws is something to worry about.

Take her to the vet now.
Reply:definetly take her now. once you bring her back home, change the cat food to wheat free or put it on a high surface, maybe the washer or something. the dog can't get an allergic reaction to wheat if there IS NO wheat for her to get.
Reply:Don't screw around, go to the vet, the best advice is professional advice.
Reply:Sounds like a Vet emergency to me! I'd get her in to see one tonight. A Vet would have to examine her and likely run some tests to find out what is wrong. What you have described sounds severe. Hope your dog will be okay.

She could have a staph infection or something else serious going on. It could be life threatening or it could be something more simple. So hope you can get to a Vet quick and update us on what is causing her to be so sick.
Reply:It doesn't sound like anything our vets have ever diagnosed as "food allergies". I think those are really over publicized. You need to see a vet now.
Reply:Doesn't sound like a food allergy - she'd be chewing and scratching. Take her to the vet.
