Puppy Problems?

My puppy is a golden and his hair falls out all the time and i know that is normal for ALL dogs but he has a serious skin problem like he has red rashes and bits...any suggesttions to skin cream or anything???????

Sounds like he has dermatitis (allergy). You will need a medicated shampoo that is made for skin irritations and probably some tablets also from your vet. Mine was the same and the tablets (a course for about 2 weeks) did the job, and always a medicated shampoo.

Reply:Just go to the vet. My parents dog has the same thing because she has allergies. The vet can give you something to give your dog to help that.

Reply:sounds like alergy to fleas or something. Naturally a vet is your best but the flea drops really work or the pills and you would be surprised at how many dogs are actually alergic to fleas.
Reply:Take him to your vet. He is probably allergic to something. He probably needs antibiotics, and an antihistamine. Maybe something a little stronger. But I wouldn't recommed treating yourself, because of the fact that you dont know exactly what you are treating, and some products that you may use could make matters worse.
Reply:Sounds like mange. There are two types- one is from a parasite that is causing the skin to be irritated, the other is auto-immune. They second one can be a life long battle.





See your vet ASAP. You want to get this under control right away because your puppy's growth could be delayed due to poor health.
Reply:Bring him to the vet and see if it "puppy pyoderma". Easily cleared up with antibiotics. Goldens are a prime breed for thyroid conditions too, so talk to the vet about that also.

Reply:It sounds like hot spots...take him to the vet for some medicine. I've also heard of some bitter apple spray to spray on them to get them to stop chewing. Check with the vet though.
Reply:take him to the vet do not let an infection set in or it will be worse. The vet will know if it is hot spots or bites or any other problems that it might be. Why take a chance?
Reply:Take your poor puppy to the vet. If he has bald spots though, I would try putting some "bag balm" on them. It is a cream originally used on cow udders when they get rashes or skin problems. You can buy it lots of places such as wal-mart, or look online. Bag balm does wonders.
