Bald Spot on Dog?

I have a cheesie bay/australian shepherd mix. She is seven years old. She has a long, soft coat. About a month ago, we took her to get groomed. She was groomed shorter than normal. We noticed a small bald spot by her right shoulder blade. It is not completely bald, but the fur is definitely gone. The fur is not growing back either. We don't know if this happened recently or if it has been there for awhile. It is difficult to tell with her long coat. The skin looks normal and there are no other visible problems with her skin or fur. Could she simply just have a bald spot?

Bald Spot on Dog?
This happened to my dog and I took her to the vets. The dog gave her cortisone pills for the itching and a spray. She was diagnosed as having a skin irritation. Her skin didn't look any different than the places that the fur wasn't falling out but after she got finished with her cortisone pills her hair started growing back in. Another thing that it could be is if there was a change in the home such as a death or someone moving out or getting a new pet or a new baby any change could make a dog bite his or her hair out due to nerves believe it or not. When one of our cats died our other cat started losing his hair and that is what they connected it to. His hair eventually grew back in but it took about eight months. Good luck and God bless you
Reply:Call the vet and ask them... I never herad that, but maybe she had some injury and you didn't see it.
Reply:this may be what they call a hot spot..it is relatively harmless...the reason its stays "bald" is she keeps licking the fur off it becomes a habit. if you got to your vet they will give you a spray called bitter apple and it is what is says a very bitter apple flavor that the dogs hate and she will stop her licking it and break the habit its a very common problem nothing to worry about and you use the spray 3 or 4 times a day...she will stop
