PPL that work w/ dogs...neglect?

I work in a grooming salon for someone else. We get this little poodle, he OBVIOUSLY has allergies so bad that he is balding, his skin and the inside of his ears are turning to what I call "elephant skin" some of it has turned black.Often it is hot, red, pussing and sometimes BLEEDING!!!!! The last 3x the dog was in he had a few fleas, this time he was completely INFESTED!! He had this skin problem B4 the fleas and of course this has made it worse. We all think he has a food allergy, the vet even told this family thats what it was%26amp; sold them a bag of food for $70 OF course the PPL think they are just trying to get them to buy the food. When they fed him the food he did start to look better, we all encouraged that it was working but they stopped the food and he got worse. We have all tried to talk to these PPl, It makes me ill to C him, what can I do? They just seem Like REALLY DITZY ppl that act like it is hopeless! UGGG!!! I have even 1/2 jokingly but serious said I would take him.

PPL that work w/ dogs...neglect?
Yes that is a form of neglect. They are not giving the dog the recommened treatment from the vet. That is horrible what is happening to this poor guy. I would (if it were me) take pictures the next time he came in and show it to either the police (cause they work with Animal Control too) or straight to Animal Control. Telling them that they are neglecting to give this dog proper medical treatment assigned by the vet and he is getting alot worse. Animal Control can get them to surrender the dog to them and they could face animal neglect charges. Then you could tell them that you also offered to take the dog and that you will adopt him. Good luck with this guy! Wishing all the best! :)
Reply:Mabey they can't afford the $70 dollars a bag this food costs i know i couldnt .. mabey you can find a reccomend a cheaper alternative or give them a discount..
Reply:Well, if you all feel the dog is being neglected, then you should contact the local shelter or the ASPCA %26amp; talk w/ them.

$70 is a LOT for dog food ... It'd be hard to afford this. Is there an alternative that is a little cheaper. We spend about $45 on a medium size bag of food from the vet b/c our dog has allergies ... It lasts about 1 month %26amp; she is a large breed dog.

Anyway ... back to the skin issue ... I'd take pictures! The poor dog is suffering. Restate the fact that'd you be happy to take the dog if they just can't afford (or care) to take care of it.
Reply:Report them to animal control. There is no excuse. No excuse for your dog to have constant skin issues to the point of bleeding, no excuse for flea infestation. If you can't afford a dog, you don't need to own one. Pet ownership is not a RIGHT, it's a PRIVILEDGE, and I'm sure your local humane society will be happy to revoke that priviledge!
Reply:WOW yeah, report them for neglect. Document the dog's condition and report them! If you are actually willing to foster/adopt the dog go ahead and let the authorities know this but be SURE to have documented the neglect first otherwise you could be treated like someone trying to cause trouble and legally steal their dog
Reply:It is really difficult to deal with people who are neglectful of their animals. I have a hard time maintaining my temper.

I had an experience where a dog was returned to me because the owners could not afford medical care... they had determined the dog had urinary crystals, had them treated, had him HEALTHY on a premium dogfood for 2 years and then the IDIOTS decided the dogfood was too expensive and put the poor dog on Beneful (of all things) because it had pictures of vegies on the front of the bag and the Vet had told them to feed the dog only things with meat and vegies (no grain fillers). So, the crystals started forming again... and they gave up the dog. He's healthy and happy now with a new home, eating a homemade diet with meat and vegies... the crystals are gone. Really just makes you want to beat people.

You do what you can to educate the people... and you try to not get too emotionally involved (I have to remind myself of that one).
Reply:yeah i know it may be horrible, call the humane society or whatever and see if they will take an anonymous call. if not and you still decide to proceed--be prepared to look for another job. believe me i know--so i opened up my own shop
