Making my own med?

my dog is sick with a skin problem we took him to the vet and the surgery to get it permedly removed it cost to much money ( he will heal because this happen before ) i was wondering if there is a recipet for some homemade cream or med to make him better or something so he will not scratch the spots

Making my own med?
Get the collar from a pet store, put around neck, call your vet, get shots to stop the itching, between the two, the skin can heal, over the counter cortizone for humans is too harsh on a dogs skin, and they will lick it, sometimes they can work themselves out of those collars, but not very often, better consult vet and ask what you can put on it,,,but ask for shot from vet, so the dog can stop suffering, you said the cost at the vet was too much for you...you took on the responsiblity to care for this dog, that means expenses also...
Reply:I would think you can try an over the counter oatmeal based shampoo for dogs. I've also heard that cortizone shots(from the vet , of course) may work.
Reply:NO IT COULD HURT HIM!!!!!!! Get a lampshade thing and stop him from biting himself. We did that to my dog and he got teriblely sick. DON"T DO IT!!!!!!! Get a lampshade or save the money!!!!!
Reply:ask the vet if you can use hydrocortizone cream and put a lamp shade collar on him. the only home remedies I know of are a baking soda or oatmeal bath. Also you can see if there is a financial assistance program for getting your dog treatment, part of having an animal is fully caring for its medical needs.
Reply:The "lamp shade" is called an Elizabethan collar. Most pet stores sell them. Dogs wear them until the wound is healed.

In addition to cream, hydrocortisone comes in sprays, pads, shampoos and salves. I prefer the spray or pads and it works very well.

Oatmeal shampoo is also good for moisturizing the skin.

A collar will run $10-$20, depending on the size of your dog and hydrocortisone treatments are probably about $8.
Reply:1) If you cannot afford the treatment you need to look into insurance, fund raising, payments or re-homing the dog. It's not fair for him to go without treatment.

2) Without knowing the diagnosis we can't tell you anything useful. Oatmeal shampoos most likely will not work for any skin condition requiring surgery.

3) Homeopathic remedies are best made by people experienced in the craft.
