How do you coax a 200lb dog into the bath tub?

My very large Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Mix has a very very bad skin condition that needs to cleaned with medicated washes and such. The only problem with this is that he doesn't get into the tub, and lifting him is out of the question..can anyone recommend ANY and I mean ANY solution to this problem?

How do you coax a 200lb dog into the bath tub?
Try a hose (outside, if not too cold wherever you are) OR walk him into a shower stall,... you'd have to go in too though.

Gd. luck.
Reply:put his fave toys in their or bring him outside and hose him down ( if u live in a warm area )
Reply:wow if your dog is that big it is overweight!!!

well give him/her treats and high value trats when he is in the bathtub high valus as in turkey ham ......... and use a clicker click when he/her puts a paw in the tub or even trys to get in.
Reply:Get a kiddie-pool with low sides, that is what we use for our 180lb mastiff.
Reply:a treat or his favorite chew toy to lead him out then when he gets out say out give him the treat and say in and give him the treat.

This works,TREATS are the answer lol.but not too much
Reply:Dangle a steak from the ceiling over the tub and see if that works. Or you can rub meat all over yourself and then climb into the tub first and he will follow. However, he may try to eat you and he sounds like a rather large dog. Good luck with Cujo...........
Reply:lots of biscuts....i am serious....make a trail to the tub....if that duznt work then yeah hose him off out side....but make sure it is the right temp.
Reply:how can your dog weigh soo much? well .. if that's true, you can always try to wash him outside with a kiddie pool and just hose him down. but you should probably tie a leash so he doesn't try to get away or anything.

good luck maaan.
Reply:ask some body with muscal to help you
Reply:i had a 200lb rottweiler and the only way i could get her in the shower was to close one door and put a piece of pizza at the far end. When she went in i closed the door behind us and then gave her her shower.
Reply:put treats in the drain.
Reply:As all of these people have said, you don't. Best thing to do with a dog this size is find a sheltered area, say a basement or covered carport since it is winter, and hook up the hose to an indoor faucet with warm water and do the medicated washes that way. Just be sure to bring him inside as soon as you are through to towell him off.
Reply:Wow, that is big for a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog! What is he mixed with? I can only think of bribery (it tends to work very well for my dogs!). Get some awesome treats (like liver) and have the in the tub and just try and coax him in, with you already in the tub. If you can try and get a friend to help you lift him in. I always end up in the tub with my dogs, but they are small enough to lift in (though my puppy won't be for much longer, 30 lbs and only 10.5 weeks old, he's a newf/saint). Maybe you could lift him a little at a time, like get the front 1/2 in get him to stay there with the treats while you lift the back 1/2 in. He will still be supporting a good bit of his own weight, so it wouldn't be as hard as lifting all 200lbs. I think if the treats won't work for getting him that you will need to get one (or two!) friends to help you out. Good luck!
Reply:Ok I know you won like my answer 1st off. Put the dog in the tub. Simple as that. I dont care how big he is MAKE him get in the tub. Im very serious about MAKING him get in. Once he is in praise the hell out of him and let him know its not a bad thing. You are not dealing with an easy breed. Its up to you to put him in the tub, let him know good boy for being there, and bathe him. He will certainly feel better aftrewards and will catch on quick to why he is there. Please assert your dominance and make the dog do what you say. Like I said you wont like my answer but you ARE in charge and it is a dog. If you want to give IT a bath than dot it.. But praise it while in the tub and it will be much easier next time.
Reply:Lifting him is not out of the question...Get 2 other people. One take the front, one the middle, the other the back end, lift him up and put him into the tub.

Thats how I manage to get Danes, Newfies, St. Bern and all the other huge dogs in my grooming tub every day. And my tub sits about 4 feet off the ground. Getting your dog into the tub really should be easy since it sits on the ground and you don't have to lift so high. Don't let the dog get his way.

The only other solution I have is to take your dog to a groomer where they can get him bathed.
Reply:i doubt your dog weighs 200 lbs,, unless he is extremely extemely obese...

PUT A LEASH ON HIM and put him in the tub
