I have a dog question, please help if you can.?

I have used Frontline on my dog for a couple of years and I have never noticed any problems with his skin but when I put it on this month he has scabs in the exact area where I put it. He is a buff colored cocker spaniel and has sensitive skin but like I said it has never bothered him in the past. Has anyone experienced this and what could it be? I am afraid it is burning his skin and I don't want to hurt him just to keep fleas off.

He could have recently developed an allergy to the frontline. I would check with the vet and make sure that is the problem and if not what it is and get the proper treatment for him.

Reply:Try not applying Frontline to your dog for a little while and see if the sores clear up, if they do then its the Frontline causing it. If it doesn't, its something else. If you haven't noticed the sores before, then chances are that this was just a coincidence.
Reply:have you contacted you veterinarian yet? its probly just a skin irritation. im sure your vet will know. its probably nothing serious
Reply:Call the company an discuss your symptoms with them. Sometimes a mils reaction can occur or the animal can feel a tingling sensation after application and scratch the area using self inflicted injury. Monitor the area and if it occurs next month consider discontinuing use of the product. Also call and report the incident to your vet.
Reply:Are you giving him a bath before or after putting on the Frontline? If so, you should wait two days before or after you put it on to bathe your dog...it says so on the package. If not, you run the risk of giving the dog chemical burn.





Other than that advice, I would have to say call your vet and see what they have to say. I use Frontline Plus, even on my dog with sensitive skin due to mange (now cured), and I have not had this problem.

Reply:Maybe his skin is sensitive to it all of a sudden... you should see a vet... i heard that oatmeal shampoo is good for dogs with sensitive skin... by the way if it scabbed where you put the frontline i wouldn't risk using it again untill i see a vet, another posibility is maybe your frontline could be expired...
Reply:Im sorry, i am a dog lover, but i dont know the answer to your question. the best thing that i can say is that if you really loved your dog as much as it sounds like, then just bring him to the vet before you put it on him again. plz, for the sake of your dog take him to a good vet. hope you find out what is up, God bless.
Reply:Ask your vet for an oral form of flea protection. They are a lot safer.
Reply:Your dog may have developed an allergic reaction to the front line that you use.Your best bet would be to take him to a vet %26amp; get it checked out.Are you useing it to much,or to soon between treatments?
Reply:I have 4 dogs that I love very much; so much that I would never apply any type of chmical to their coat-skin. I take my dogs to a veterinarian who knows how I feel about chemicals and he dips them in a non chemical bath that controls fleas as well as a chemical bath. Sounds terrible doesn't it. A Chemical bath.
Reply:Did you not realise that you were applying a heavily laden toxic substance to your dogs skin. The reason it never bothered him in the past is that is how chemicals do their damage. Try adding a small amount of crushed garlic or powder to his food source, we will the the lousy buggers from the inside. I use Advantage on mine, and not all the time, I give them breaks. I use Advantage as the chemical 'stench' from this is not as bad as the others, and the dogs allow me to use this on them.
Reply:first, give the dog a bath that will help sooth the skin. then apply something that will help the infected area to heal and not itch.


I use frontline on my dog and she has sensitive skin but not from the frontline. I'm more concerned about the diseases she could get rather than just flea control. I have Lyme disease and I don't want my dog to get it too, it's a nightmare. Maybe try to apply the frontline elsewhere and see if the rash occurs there. Pay attention whenever the dog itches and look at that spot. If you find a rash, use something to relieve and heal it. I like "Pet Relief anti-itch hydro-cortisone spray" because it works for my dog.
Reply:Try another product like Advantix it works great for ticks, fleas, heartworm and also mosquitoes now supposedly. I like it better then Frontline.
Reply:Pets can develop adverse reactions to topical medications even if they have that on in the past. My advice to u is to make sure u are not using anything else such as flea sprays, chemicals in the home, flea collars etc. Anything like that because they are all pesticides and to much can be harmful. If u are looking just for a flea prentative try Advantage, it is less harmful but works just as well as the frontline.
