What can i use to help dry, pinkish-red skin that's incredilbly irritated?

my dog has a serious flea problem and he can't help but itch, his skin is in a bad condition, we can't afford the vet at the moment, and we also can't afford K9 Advantix or something. yeah, we're on a budget. so what can i do?

What can i use to help dry, pinkish-red skin that's incredilbly irritated?
If you have Dawn Dish Detergent use it on a DRY dog. If not Dawn use whatever you have. Cover every inch that you can safely. (no eyes, mouth etc) leave the dog covered in the soap for about 15 mins. Then give the dog a warm bath %26amp; wash it all off. You should see lots of dead fleas going down the drain. As for the skin. Use goldbond or something with meds or aloe. Do Not use any handcream, the perfumes will irritate the skin more.

If you see more fleas tomorrow, do it again, but not everyday, then the soap will be irritating to the skin, by drying it out.

Go to Walmart, get a small spray bottle, get peppermint extract from the baking isle or spices. Put the extract in the bottle, fill the rest with water, shake well, set on mist. Spray the dog 2-3 times per day. As soon as you can, take it to the vet. The fleas will probably give the dog worms if it hasn't already.
Reply:you just get a dry rag in it will be dry.
Reply:go buy a bottle of flea shampoo and bath your dog once a day every other day for a week, also just put neosporin on the raw spots after the week of bathing and he will heal, it only takes about 15 bucks...
Reply:well im not sure where u live but in new york city we have associations like the ASPCA that u can go to and get vet help for free. Where ever u live there should b a humane society look up the yellow pages and they will give ur dog free help
Reply:mix white petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) and zinc cream (that white sticky stuff that looks like cream cheese) together in equal parts. It'll create a barrier and help the skin, too!
Reply:my dog gets irrated, raw skin because she scratches so much and i use regular antibiotic ointment or neosporin.
Reply:When my dog had really dry skin we would rub some extra virgin olive oil on the coat wherever the dry skin is. My friend works for a vet and her dog had problems like that and she shaved the really dry itchy areas with hair clippers and used olive oil.
Reply:I agree with the Dawn use. Depending on how bad the infestation is depends on how long you need to keep it on the dog. At the grooming place I volunteer at, we only keep it on for 5 minutes at a time. If fleas are still present after the first bath, we give them a second bath. You do not put it on a dry dog though. You use it like you would any other shampoo.

Also, to relieve some the itching you might want to use a oatmeal shampoo. You might also want to visit the website I am putting as my source. There are a ton of people that will have more information than me on there.

I hope this helps and good luck!
Reply:Better take it to the vet...It may be becoming a 'hot spot' that needs special ointment and antibiotic shots......
