Big air bubble under my dogs skin, caused by vet?

You may remember me from yesterday, I was really worried cause my dog got this big tennis ball sized lump under his fur all of a sudden, we were concerned of course and when we took him to the vet today they told us that the shot that they gave him caused an air bubble, now they want to charge us $50 to deflate it!!!! Is that crazy or is it just me? any suggestions on this problem while not paying the $50 vet bill?

Big air bubble under my dogs skin, caused by vet?
What is under the dog's skin is probably fluid from the shot. The dog's body should reabsorb the fluid within a few days. I used to work in a vet clinic and when we would give shots or iv fluids a big bubble would develop around the injection site from where the fluid was being pumped in because the body can not absorb the fluid that fast. The bubble should go away within a few days once the fluid is absorbed, but if you want to deflate the air bubble yourself, all you need to do is puncture it. I would probably go to a place like Walgreens or something and buy a needle with a syringe. Gently puncture the air bubble and pull out the plunger on the syringe to extract the air. I have done this in chickens before and it works. The skin may be alittle tough in a dog so be careful when doing it so as not to go in to far.
Reply:Definitely take your dog to another vet. You might have to pay, but it sounds like your vet is being unethical. Besides, if your vet is really just covering his own butt, you don't want to trust your dog's care to him.
Reply:I would demand that they do it for free since they caused the problem in the first place. If they don't, then tell them you're going to a new vet.
Reply:Normally this will disappear by itself, but since it was so big my guess it was caused by the person who gave the shot. somehow when they gave the shot there was air in the syringe (a huge no-no at my vet's office, and we make sure there is no air in there) and the air was inserted into your poor dogs skin. I wouldn't foot the $50 bill either. it was the vet's fault not yours, you shouldn't have to pay for what they did wrong. go back and tell the vet your not going to pay for it because it was caused by the person who gave the shot and you are going to wait a few more days to see if it goes down and if not you are taking yourself from that vet and going to a new one, which is what i would do. any vet that uncaring doesn't need to be seeing your dog. anytime my vet makes a mistake he pays for it himself or doesn't charge to have it fixed.

oh, was it a normal rabies and annual or was it something else? if rabies and annual this should have never happened.
Reply:Oftentimes rabies vaccines will cause a lump. I've never heard of an "air bubble." For that reason alone, I would consult another vet ASAP. Then consider sending that bill to the vet giving the injection, along with a log of the conversations you've had with them. They probably won't pay the bill, but it should get their attention.
Reply:Are they joking? They should be glad you aren't suing them for yours and your dog's stress. There are too many good vets out there to settle for one that does not have your dog's best interest at heart. Sure, accidents happen, but why should you have to pay for it? A new vet is in order as soon as possible. You'll have to pay for the deflation, but at least you will (hopefully) be with a vet that takes his/her pets and their owners seriously.
