My yorkie stinks and I can't bathe him to much or I will dry out his skin..can you help me with this problem.
You can use an oatmeal based dog shampoo that will not dry his skin. If you prefer to not bathe him, you can use a warm wash cloth or baby wipes.

Unfortunately, Yokies are prone to skin issues. Usually the first symptom of a skin issue will be the distinct smell the skin gives off. I would make sure your boy is clear of any skin issues.

2. Feed high quality premium kibble

3. Take him to the vet

Healthy dogs don't smell bad.
Reply:they make doggie perfume. not real perfume but it is a bodyspray to keep them from stinking. change his diet, or you can get a flea and tick spray that is scented and kills two birds with one stone
Reply:You can bathe him weekly - it will not dry out his skin. Just use a gentle shampoo - and YES, you can use human shampoo. I use Suave on my dogs %26amp; have for years.

You can also use conditioner on him so that he skin doesn't get dry. Just make sure to rinse him very thoroughly.
Reply:if all else fails, get some chlorophyll from a health food store and mix the powder from the capsule into his food. it is perfectly safe and will get rid of any odors, but it will make his poop green.
Reply:Better quality food.
Reply:Terriers often have an odor. If the vet says he doesn't have allergies (which can cause odor), and he doesn't have fleas, and if he is on a good diet, you can use the deodorizing spray cologne to help. I find the oatmeal shampoo works even better when used with an oatmeal conditioner--the conditioner seems to smell better longer. And baby wipes in between baths works well too.
Reply:There are plenty of dog shampoo products that won't dry out the skin, and that provide emolliant effects, but if your dog's skin is that dry, he may have a nutritional problem.

Check out the possibility of allergies, and give him a dog food product with enough fat --essential fatty acids-- in it. Ask your vet about fish oil supplements.
Reply:uhm.. i use baby wipes...

that would work instead of bathing him..
Reply:There has to be a basic reason for foul smells. If he has not been rolling in muck, then he probably has a skin irritation and needs an anti-bacterial shampoo. The vets usually sell malaseb. Its a shampoo that is left on the animal for up to ten mins, and done every few days until the condition clears up. My Westie suffers from the same, especially on his feet that he constantly licks when the irritation takes hold. The smell comes from these areas only and is caused by a bacterial infection. You have to see the vet first and will probably have to pay for an initial injection. The shampoo is well over £12.
Reply:Use Dawn dish soap. Get an empty dish soap container, fill it with 1/2 in. Dawn and then dilute the rest with water. Bathe him/her twice with it. It makes my Lab smell really good and I know the groomers use the same thing.
Reply:A healthy dog doesn't stink and shouldn't need bathing frequently. You might consider changing his diet.
