My dog is sick please help?

I have a 10 month old Labrador crossed German shepered. About three days back he started to drip blood from where he passes urine. He does not have any other problems like eating problems %26amp; he is as active as ever. When I called the vet he said it is a cancer %26amp; need to be given an injection. He also said tht he need someone strong to hold the dog while giving the injection cause is it was spilled it could burn the dogs skin. Since he was saying this over the phone without even looking at the dog I am kind of scared to take him to the vet (wht if this is the wrong injection) can someone please tell me whts wrong with my dog, is it a cancer or could it be something else

My dog is sick please help?
It could also be bladder stones or UTI. Young pups rarely have cancer. this vet is just out for your money.. Please find another vet, even if you have to travel.
Reply:Definitely get a second opinion.

I wouldn't trust a doctor that claims my dog has cancer over the phone without even seeing her. That's ridiculous.
Reply:I would see a different vet. Definately! try to bring a urine sample with you, If you can get the dog to pee on a plastic bag. Place the plastic bag in a corner, outside, and hopefully he'll lift his leg. Keep the dog drinking, and get him to a vet right away. You need a urine test first, and then you can make some decisions.
Reply:I would be really skeptical of a vet that diagnosed something as severe as cancer without ruling out something simple like a bladder infection first, and over the phone no less!!

Get a new vet before giving any of those injections and make sure the dog gets a thorough exam. Bladder infections commonly cause blood in the urine and that needs to be ruled out before you start treating for cancer.
Reply:Hi Scamper,

This vet would make me a bit nervous too. Has he ever seen this dog before you got him, does he know a history that you don't? If not, it's time to find a new vet. You should do this ASAP, because your baby needs to see a vet like three days ago when it started. This may be something serious. Please, get a second opinion from another vet.

Is there an Emergency Vet hospital around that you could call and take him to?

Did you rescue from a shelter or was this dog purchased from a breeder. Contact them to see if they know any prior history as well. This can be done after going to the vet.
Reply:No vet can make a proper diagnosis over the phone. You need to take the dog in to a vet (preferably not some loon tat wants to give your dog a dangerous shot without an exam and tests) to have a work up and begin with a urinalysis and possibly a blood draw. Don't procrastinate, this issue could be small right now, but waiting could turn it into something massive and super expensive!
Reply:I don't understand how your vet knows it's cancer without seeing or testing him. Is your dog neutered? If not it sounds like a inflamed prostate and to take care of that you have the dog neutered asap. You may want to see another vet. Hope it all works out. I'm sure your poor guy is in pain, dogs do have a high tolerance to pain, but they still feel it. So sorry;^(
Reply:Just made sure he/she has plenty of water.I really don't think the dog has cancer..your dog would be sick..don't worry if your dog is eating and running around its will be fine...
Reply:It is much more likely that at his age, your pup has a urinary infection. It could really be any one of a number of minor things rather than cancer. Unless this vet saw this dog just a few days ago, how can he have any clue what's actually going on? Take your dog for a second opinion. The only thing I can imagine is the vet said "calculi" which are stones, and over the phone it sounded like he said "cancer". Cancer at 10 months is rare.
Reply:DO NOT USE THIS VET. He is unethical and being way too free with his use of very powerful drugs. You want a vet who cares about dogs - not all of them do. Please ask friends if they have a good vet - get a recommendation. If that's not possible, just go to ANY other vet than this. I've never heard of such an irresponsible vet. Your dog deserves better.
Reply:You're full of crap. take him to the vet.
Reply:I would not go to that vet.Go to another vet right away.I had a retriever and we still have her she had a kidney infection and we took her in right away. She had blood everywhere. It can be deadly if you dont use your time wisely. My retriever is noe 13 and she is doing great .She was around 7 or 8 when she got sick.Go see a vet and not the vet over the phone.
