Dog Food Help?

My dog has #2 problems and I need to change his diet. He is a Mini Poodle 1 years old. And right now he is on Canned Ol'Roy since my aunt has money issues but I offered to buy them food. So yea.

So I went to Wal*Mart with my dad to look at food. I want a HUGE bag of dog food that you can make moiste. I don't care if the dog's wont eat it b/c it's too dry. Once they start starving they'll eat it. (That sounds bad, but I don't mean it like that). But I looked at all the 40 lb bags and the first ingrediant was Corn. Even Ol' Roy cans have meat as first ingrident.

It CAN'T be organic. Nope I'm against it. But I would like it to be fairly affordable and good for the skin. What would you recommend? Oh and I have to be able to drive to a store to get it, no internet only food....

Go to both sites

using both sites is better than just using one. it would be better if you have a mental list of the products available there so you can check the brands out on the two sites. just make sure the formula is suitable for your dog.

I use Canidae and Solid Gold as they are the only good ones available here and I switch brands after every bag. If Innova Evo Red meat is available here I would use that as well.
Reply:well, organic doesnt really have any guidleines in the dog food world, so even if it says it, doesnt mean it is.

but my suggestion, if u want something u can buy in the store, is Blue. its sold in petsmart. has no corn, wheat, soy, beef, or by-products, or artificial preservatives. its great for the skin, and digestion. it may look pricey, but b/c of the higher quality ingredients, your dog does not need to eat as much as a crappy food might require. Blue can be fed dry or moistened with warm water or low sodium broth.
Reply:First, you aren't going to get any sort of decent food from Wal-mart. It is all pure junk.

Second, You do NOT want the biggest bag you can get. Food looses it's nutritional value rather quickly after it's open. You want absolutely no more than your dog will eat in a 3 month period.

Third, this dog needs to see a vet if it is having regular proplems with '#2'.

If you want a good food then go to your local pet store and look at the foods. You want the top three ingredients to be meat. No 'by products'. You don't want any corn or wheat. Expect to pay for what you get.
Reply:Don't shop in Walmart for the dog food! Get on the phone and look in the phone book and start calling your local feed and grain businesses. You want to get something like Candidae, Nature's Recipe, Taste of the Wild, Solid Gold. Those are all pretty good foods but you usually find them at the feed and grain businesses or PetSmart or PetCo. I would call and ask before heading out to purchase, that way you don't make a wasted trip.
Reply:anywhere but walmart please.. olroy is the worst food in america

Anything food you can find in a Walmart or Grocery store is pure junk. sorry to break it to you.And you say meat is the first ingridient. you mean probobly meat by products witch is ushually dogs and cats put to sleep in shelters. I reccomend this food.

It's so affordable being a natural food. 8 dollars for 5 pounds!
Reply:Since you have a miniature poodle, then even though dog food that is healthy is more expensive, it is not so expensive when feeding it a better quality food.

Nature's Recipe is a better quality food without corn or wheat, no artificial dyes and it comes canned but the canned is not runny or with gravy. So you might want to get their canned food and put out half portion of that food then the other portion of dry food- feeding twice a day. YOu can get really cheap snap on covers for the cans so you can store them in your fridge without them spoiling.

Check dates on cans and bags of food for optimum freshness.

I sprinkle Brewer's Yeast over my dogs food. That's great for skin and coat. I also give them occasional plain yogurt.
Reply:Go to a pet store and buy Nutro Max it is cheap but will last a long time. It is important that he should eat dry food.
