Why do my dogs eat the feces from our neighbors' dog?

I recently changed their food because of probable food allergy that is showing as skin problems. Our vet suggested I feed them a diet with proteins that are broken down. It appears that proteins aren't digested properly.

Now we've noticed the dogs feasting on droppings. Perhaps, they did it before and we're just noticing it or their diet is lacking in some nutrient.

Why do my dogs eat the feces from our neighbors' dog?
Can you find out what the neighbors' dog is eating? That might give a clue. There are a lot of reasons a dog might eat feces; I've included a link. Talk to your vet though, if you can't sleuth it out.
Reply:Noone really knows why, but dogs do eat the feces of other dogs, cats and animals.

they make products you can buy thru your vet or the store that will stop them from doing this.

yes, eating the feces can prevent the stomach and digestive from properly doing its job.

I would suggest worming them after they are treated (they need to be healthy before any kind of treatment can be done) and using one of those products to stop them from eating feces.

you can also find these products on the drs. foster and smith, 1800 petmeds may have it, and of course petco, and other pet shops should have some kind of treatment for it.

good luck!
Reply:Dogs often do this when they are not getting sufficient amount of the essential nutrients, especially vitamins, I think it will be the change in diet that has caused this, I think you should talk to your vet and ask about any vitamin additives that you could include into your dogs food.
Reply:I reasearched it and found out that dogs eat faeces because eating it provide essential nutrients that its own body lacks, why roling on them is an instinctive way of masking his own scent in preparation for 'hunting'. Hope this helped!Rochelle T, you are wrong!!!
Reply:well , for starters , your Vet needs to go "back to school"...if your Vet can`t answer this query..... , if i pooped on your lawn , wouldn`t you want to remove it..?

after all , it`s your Territory and you wouldn`t want ME to take claim on it , especially if i was in Competition with you to claim it..!

THAT is exactly what Dogs and other animals do (because they can`t pick it up and put it in a plastic bag to dispose of it into the Refuse bin)....it is a Terrritorial thing and i am appalled that your Vet couldn`t recognise this , after all , isn`t your Vet the`animal Expert`..?

Secondly , by tasting the FAECES , it gives your dog a better capability to "recognise" the future `threat` to its Domain..!
