How do you get rid of dog rashes?

We got a new dog and it has a little bit of mange and a bad rash on the top of its head what do i use to get rid of its skin problems?

How do you get rid of dog rashes?
You will have to go to your veterinarian to have a skin scraping analysis done.

Part of the reason for this is that there are two different types of mange (demodectic and sarcoptic), different mite life cycles and stages of infestation.

Also, if left alone the infection will get worse and the constant scratching may cause a secondary infection which will need antibiotics.

Your veterinarian will be able to diagnose the kind of mange your dog has IF that's what it is, and give you appropriate medication to solve the problem.

Keep in mind that this could be a few other things like ringworm, hot spots etc..

Hope this helps!
Reply:Try vaseline. That always does the trick for soothing it.

But for the mange, see a vet. Make an appointment, because mange is bugs under the skin. It is contagious and can spread to other dogs (or cats) quite fast. A vet will know how to cure it, so bring him in!

Good luck
Reply:without seeing the dog its difficult to say, he might have eczema. perhaps he wasn't looked after in his old home, in that case just give him a bath or perhaps take him to a vet for proper advice
Reply:are you sure its mange?? Has he been treated already...

and you mean he still has a little rash..

If he has already been treated.. just bathe him in a mixture..

of betadine ( walmart.. first aid aisle) and dawn dish soap.. and water..

get you an empty soap bottle... put about 1/2 water... 1/4 betadine and 1/4 soap... shake it well.. let it set on him for about 10 minutes... that should help.

If your sure its mange.. and he hasnt been treated.. he will need to see a vet.. one type of mange is curable..and one isnt.
Reply:Both of my dogs were highly elergic to everything, thus, constant rashes. I gave them a benadryl tab (my vet recommened it). They both lived to be over 18 yrs old. Most baby meds work for dogs. (NO CATS!). Then try the sensative medicated shampoos for his hair. That should do it.
