Drinking lot of water (male Dog)?

I ve a male Dog, Age 11. Since recently he has been drinking lot of water. He is under medicine for his ear n skin rash problems and other than his meals are fine. What could be possibly the reason for this.

Drinking lot of water (male Dog)?
Okay well the first thing you need to do is check what type of medication he's taking. Sometimes an increase in water intake can be caused by certain medications like Prednisone. If you don't think it's because of the medication... take him into the vet... older pets can have an increase in water intake due to some medical problems like: kidney failure, Hyperthyroidism, kidney or urinary tract infection, and Pyometra (infection of the uterus) to name a few.
Reply:kidneys
Reply:Dehydration?
Reply:Could be a number of things maybe the med's could be diabetes etc..... I would suggest a vet visit to see whats going on. They can run some blood work to make sure eveyrthing looks good.
Reply:You may want to look up the medicine online or ask your Vet, but, most likely, .....a side effect of increased thirst is probably noted. This would be a normal side-effect, and being extra thirsty and getting hyrdated is nothing to be alarmed about.

I hope this helps.
Reply:Sounds like a side effect from meds. If not, have the vet check for thyroid problems or diabetes. When I found out my dog was diabetic, her weight went from 20 lbs to 45 lbs because she ate like she was starving, her water intake was outrageous %26amp; she started have "accidents" %26amp; all this happened in less than a month. I took her to the vet, tested her for thyroid %26amp; diabetes. Found out it was diabetes, got her blood sugar down %26amp; she lost 22 lbs. With the aid of insulin %26amp; Science Diet w/d, she's been fine for 3 years.
Reply:Diabetes... plain and simple. I had a dog die a year ago and he drank alot of water in one sitting.. get your dog to a vet and get blood tests.. got to move quick kidneys will shut down within time.
