Skin soother for dogs?

My dog has constant itching and allergy problems, I do not want to keep her jacked on drugs, and was hoping to find a solution to her constant scratching and chewing, to the point of raw red skin. She does not have fleas. Visits to the vet are getting very costly and cannot continue. I'm looking for a home remedy like a cream or Olive oil?? Something obviously that would reduce the itch and discomfort and at the same time, not be harmful to her. Thanks for any help!!

Skin soother for dogs?
1. food allergy- try feeding nature's recipe venison and rice healthy skin formula. It is not 100% hypoallergenic (it has chicken fat), but it may be good enough and is less expensive than precription diets for allergy.

2. Omega 3 fatty acids. They have so many good uses and are widely available.
Reply:change the food. i'll bet there's wheat in what your feeding. try wheat/soy free. i have 1 that had an allergy to chicken too.
Reply:sometimes at pet stores they have sprays that will help that. my dog had the same problem and we started using a spray. the redness went down. we are still using it but now the spot is almost gone.
Reply:my dog had the same problem last summer- grass allergies.

the vet gave us hemorrhoid cream (for people) and it worked.
Reply:Look into a dietary change. Heres some info for you. Dogs on this diet usually find ALL skin issues disappear with in a week or so, depending on the severity.
