Sour smelling dog?

My dog has started smelling sour lately, I have not changed anything with him lately except his dog food. Checked his ears, mouth, and eyes not coming from any of those. Gave him three baths in one day(probably dried out his skin so theres another problem the smell just won't go away. I really don't want to go to his vet right now, and aside from the fish oil pills i need to pick up for his skin and switch his dog food back to his exspensive as hell bag, what else should I do......thoughts, suggestions?

Sour smelling dog?
take the dog to the VET
Reply:It could be his anel glands! They smeel really nasty when they need to be drained! I would take him to the vet because the smell will get even worse if that is what it is! Best of luck to you! It is only 15 dollars to have the glands drained!
Reply:Sounds like you don't have much compasion for your dog. If an "expensive as hell" high quality bag of food, proper veterinary care, and other things is not on your list of things for your dog, then you really need to start finding a good home for the pup. You don't deserve him.

Also, with a high quality food, you actually feed LESS. It may cost more, but you are not feeding your dog a food that is 90% fillers. They get more nutrition out of a smaller amount. So a smaller bag of expensive food goes MUCH farther than one huge inexpensive bag of food.
Reply:Are you sure he's not rolling in something after you bathe him? Often a dog will roll in something foul smelling to mask their own odor, which is part of their hunting instinct.

Someone else mentioned the anals glands, and he also could have a fungal skin infection.
Reply:I agree with Peachy, take the dog to the vet and get his anal glands drained. If you notice him dragging his butt across the ground, I would say that is definitely the case. When the anal sacs get full, they start to smell sour, and having a vet pinch them to drain them usually helps a lot.

If it's not that, have you tried any kind of solution in his ears? You may not be able to see any issues, but very well might have water in his ears, if he has been swimming lately especially.

Either way, take him to a vet. I know it costs $$ but that's what dog ownership is about!
Reply:I know if a dog gets near a skunk and smell like one, you can pour tomato juice on the dog. It will take the smell away.

My dog started to smell, even when I brought her home after a bath etc. at the groomers.

They sold me some kind of shampoo, ( I keep it there). she still smells, so I ask them to shampoo her twice. It keeps the smell down to a minimum
