Dog scratching question?

My dog does have allergy problems with his ears and dry skin on his back, but for the last month or so he has been how can I explain this..... it looks like he is gnawing at his crotch ALOT and the sound is so gross, it wakes me up at night, and he doesn't have fleas, and have looked at the area and I don't see anything. Any ideas?

Dog scratching question?
What type of dog food at you feeding him? You need to feed him a good quality dog food with a low grain amount such as Canidae.

The majority of allergies in dogs is caused by the grain in their dog food so you need to slowly transition him onto a new dog food- automatically changing dog food can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Start by putting 25% new food with 75% old food and over a two week time period, slowly make it more new food until he is completely on the new dog food.

It also would not hurt to take him to the vet because it sounds like his skin is irritating him a lot.

Also, go to the pet store and buy a good quality dog shampoo with oatmeal- oatmeal helps with dry skin.
Reply:take him to the vet
Reply:I suggest an oatmeal bath given by your groomer/yourself

ALLERGIES: The fastest and easiest remedy is to give your pet a cool-water soak. Bathe your pet for about 5 to 10 minutes in cool bath water, since warm water aggravates the itch. To make the soaks even more soothing, vet’s sometimes recommend adding colloidal oatmeal (such as Aveeno) to the bath water. It gives the water a smooth, silky feel that will help calm the crankiest skin. If you don’t have colloidal oatmeal or an oatmeal shampoo, you can substitute regular oatmeal from the kitchen. Take an old sock and fill it with oatmeal. Tie the sock over your bathtub spout so the water comes through the oatmeal.
Reply:take him to the vet ......
Reply:Food allergy...what do you feed him? get Premium food not grocery store food.
Reply:If he has allergies it could be that. Try bathing him with a medicated shampoo or oatmeal.

If he gets groomed he would have gotten a sanitary cut (which would include shaving around his crotch area). Sometimes the hair growing back can make them itch, I've had clients call me a couple days after a groom asking the same question.
Reply:have you tried eqyys products before? ...i had a dog with bad skin allergies and started using the shampoo and spray.. it cleared up her smell and flakiness... as for the current scratching problem, i'd take him into the vet just to be on the safe side...
Reply:you better take to the vet don't ignore it, they can stop the infection very well and let you know what is going on. as sooner is better.
Reply:my dog does the same thing,he gnaws so much his hair comes out.I took him to the vet and he said although he doesnt have fleas if he comes in contact with even one and it bit him, he;ll do that because its the bite hes allergic to.Dont let him stay outside very long and bath him with medicated shampoo.
Reply:Could be sexual activity - as with my dog
Reply:I would go to Petsmart or Petco and find a different food. Be aware of what is in the food you currently feed him and find something that doesn't have whats in his current food. My dog had allergies to her food. We were feeding her lamb and rice. We figured out she was allergic to rice and she is allergic to chicken. She now eats sweet potato and fish from Dick Van Patten's line of food from Petco. She has not had the constant itching and ear problems since we switched her.
