How do i get my dog to stop shedding?

my dog is a shorter haired german shepard and she is shedding like crazy. it is summer but i have to vacuum constantly and i always have the lint brush to get hair off the side of the couches. we brush her like everyday so does anybody know any type of shampoo or something to cut down the amount of shedding and she doesnt have a skin problem so it is not like we can take her to a vet to get meds.

How do i get my dog to stop shedding?
I also have a short haired German Shepherd and this is what we do to stay sane. I just bought a new brush for our dog and it is AWESOME....

www.furminator.com

It's a little expensive (about $40), but it has cut down on the shedding big time! They also sell deshedding shampoo and vitamins, but I haven't tried those. ..

Also, make sure your dog is on a high quality dog food, this is also supposed to help with shedding.

Good luck!
Reply:u cant stop shedding

its natural and dogs do it their entire lives
Reply:Unfortunately, there's not really much you can do. I would suggest constantly brushing her and giving her a bath regularly but it sounds like you're already doing that. It's summertime, you just have to bare with her :( She can't help it. But don't worry, as I've noticed in my dogs, some summers are worse than others.
Reply:I'd hate to tell you but there is not miracle that will stop your dog from shedding especially at this time of year. You can however get a slicker brush and brush her once every day to reduce the amount she is shedding. Make sure she is getting enough water too so it will cool her body and it won't need to shed as much to keep cool.
Reply:Don't comb his hair to much.
Reply:believe it or not you have to cut the dogs hair down to a quarter inch to control dogs sheddings.....or just get used to it ....
Reply:Most dogs will shed, but I do know that feeding a high quality food is also good for the hair,
Reply:u rly can't stop her from shedding. it's a natural way to get rid of excess fur, and too much of it could make them overheat. the only way to make sure it doesn't all end up in your house is to brush her ALOT outside, but other than that u can't stop her from shedding. good luck!!
Reply:You can't stop the shedding, but you can cut down on the amount of hair loss by brushing frequently. You should get a brush that gets the undercoat and not just the surface fur.

I have 2 Pomeranians - imagine My house!!!!
Reply:Shave it!
Reply:There really isn't a way to make your dog stop shedding, but there are some brushes and combs that get more loose hair off of the dog. (there is one available at a store called 'Linens N' Things' that gets hair out of the undercoat that the dog would normally fall off onto the couch, floor, etc. it works pretty well)
Reply:There is a shampoo called "stop-Shed" or something like that, we got it at Wal-Mart for our sheltie... I read somewhere that dogs shed becasue of available sunlight, not becasue of the change of seasons - though they seem to go hand-in-hand. As far as actually shedding, dogs and cats do it all the time, my sister has a Dalamatian and says she is surprised the dog isn't bald. Some dogs just shed a lot, like some people shed their hair, and others don't. Other than anti-shed shampoo, with a dog I think you're kind of stuck....
Reply:It is a natural thing for a dog to shed. They generally will do it 2 times a year. Once in the spring and again in the Autumn. This is natures way of changing the thickness of their coats in response to the weather. Some breeds do shed more then others. In general you should brush your dog least 3 times a week for this reason. There are also vitaium supplements you can give your pet to help this. Perhaps a change to a better quality of dog food would help. You also understand it is normal for a dog and a cat to shed their fur during stressful times, like going to the vet. Talk to your vet and see if there is a underlaying issue that may be causing your dog to shed too much. There are 2 types of mange which will cause this also. Your dog would need to be seen by the vet to determine if your dog has mange. IMPOTENT note about mange, there is a type which can be transferred to humans.
Reply:DON'T CLIP, CUT OR SHAVE THIS DOGS COAT!!! On a double coated breed like a shepherd doing this will only make the coat grow in thicker (more shedding hair). It can also change the texture of the coat, topcoat (guard hairs) may take longer to grow back in or it may not grow in at all and the undercoat will grow in thicker. The color of the dog may also change due to the change in the coat. It will be duller and usually lighter in color.

Best thing to do is brush with a slicker against the growth or the coat (back brush it)then with it, then use a fine tooth comb and you can finish with using the Furminator...use 3-4 short strokes then move down to the next section until you do the entire dog then you may repeat once or twice...don't over use the Furminator or use too much pressure.

Shed stop is one shampoo that is suppose to reduce shedding. There is also a product (spray) called Quicker Slicker ...this product helps release the coat and makes it easier to brush out...it works best after the dog has been bathed, towel dry then spray with QS..blow dry and brush at the same time ...don't let the dryer sit in one spot too long...keep the air moving or you can burn your dog. You may want to wear goggles.. the hair will fly! it will look like its snowing hair so do this in an area you can clean up easily-the hair will blow all over!!.

Don't over bathe...that can lead to dry skin and other problems
