About two years ago, I rescued a Dachshund/Pekingese mix. She is the sweetest dog I have ever owned!?

From the first day I got her, she has scratched constantly. I had her checked by the vet and she didn't have fleas or any skin problems. She has recently gotten fleas--my backdoor neighbor has a lot of dogs that live outside and I can't get rid of our fleas. The Vet. said to give her Benadryl as a last resort. I am up to one whole tablet and it hardly helps! I have tried everything on the market( for the itching and the fleas) plus some home remedies--Neem Oil, Castor Oil, etc. I hate to poison my dogs.... I feed her a food for skin problems (only a little) and mostly homemade food, since the recent dog food recall. I usually give her (and her sister, a feist) a cooked mixture of meat (chicken, liver, tofu), a starch, green veg, orange veg, brewer's yeast, fresh garlic, etc. She also sheds way more than you can imagine, but, until recently, had no sparse or bare spots on her coat. Just recently, she developed some spots of thinning fur. HELP!

Advantage Plus works great on the dogs. And you need to treat YOUR yard for fleas and ticks, too. You can buy something to spray or spread from your local Co-Op. I would keep my dogs in the front yard away from their out door dogs. You will have to spray for fleas in your house or get a fogger. If the dogs have them the beds and carpets do too. I have an Akita that had the same problem. We controlled the fleas ...the problem went away. Turns out she was actually allergic to the fleas !

Good Luck..
Reply:I use advantage the heatz kind it works great on fleas for months.
Reply:Your vet should be able to handle this and if he isn't then change vets. There are flea products out there that can control the flea population and you should treat your back yard. If the baby has allergies, there are meds for them that will help. Keep trying. Sounds like you love them a lot. I am a dog lover, too.
