Re : Why can't dog people just be a little more educated? by Judgers?

Sorry to bother like this, but due to another "suspension" I'm unable to participate properly. Go figure.

Anyway

Many dog owners think that their dogs prosper on this or that commercial food diet. In many cases it may be even correct assumption. However, from what I see every day I can say that at least 50-75% of dogs suffer from chronic diarrhoea, digestion and skin problems. This goes often unnoticed or is taken as "normal".

Even the best food from a bag can't beat proper home made raw diet. It costs less and takes about an hour or two a week to prepare.

I think your dog is worth it.

Re : Why can't dog people just be a little more educated? by Judgers?
I agree but the problem is most people do not want to research raw feeding or be bothered with doing more than pouring food from a bag and then there are those that do not believe in feeding raw.

If they want to feed dog food that is fine but they should at least feed the best quality dog food they can afford.

My dogs are worth it.
Reply:I agree that a raw diet is the best. Due to my inability to store raw foods, I have to settle for "natural" kibble. I feed TimberWolf and my dog is doing 150% better both physically and behaviorally than he was on store brands.

add: Wow I'm finally gaining some popularity...The thumbs down fairy is visiting me:P

add: I was lucky, I grew up with parents who fed raw. They taught me that unless you put chemicals into the food raw meat won't do a thing to your dog. Other than keep it alive and healthy that is.
Reply:yeah i do agree.i might just maybe twice aweek cook my dog, grilled chicken veg and rice mixed with her dry food.make meal times more fun,and they wont beg! or try and snatch food, like my sisters dog!
Reply:I believe raw diet is the best too, I agree. The main problem is is that not everyone has enough time to prepare a raw diet for their dogs. If you can't do that, at least take the time to find a good dry food.
Reply:Yep, my dogs eat a raw diet but I get emails about how I shouldnt feed my dogs raw meat because "their vet" said raw meat will make the dog ill. Go figure. Everybody has an opinion on feeding their dogs....mine is feeding raw. :)

So has anybody noticed that all the raw diet feeders have gotten thumbs down votes? Haha
Reply:There are some premium dog foods out there. Not everybodys lifestyle allows for preparing raw food! Yes, dog owners should be well informed, but isn't that what this website is all about?
Reply:Yeah I think it is the best too, I feed mainly raw. But what is the question and you can't rule the world if someone wants to feed their dog other food, get over it.
Reply:I dont like to feed my dog.. B/c if i feed him, he will start going to the bathroom a lot. To answer your question, I am educated that if you eat, you poop, and i just can't have that.. But the dog is doing quite fine with his bones protruding. It looks really good on him. Makes him looked disciplined. :)
Reply:I feed raw too, and I find it easy. Most other people I know can't or won't do it. Too bad - my dogs are healthy and happy.

I'm surprised too at how many skin conditions, behavior problems, and digestion problems are viewed as normal - but hey, ya gotta catch 'em with honey, not vinegar.
Reply:There are some good raw foods on the market. It costs a little more than making it but the time saved is worth it for me. The big problem is the storage space. Raw food takes up a lot of space, particularly if your dog is big or if you have multiple dogs. There are also some good freeze dried foods for people who want to go Raw but don't have the space.

People freak out when I tell them that my dogs are on a raw diet. And then I tell them about the heat sore the used to get and when I tell them about the quality of most commercial foods, they become less freaked out and more interested.

I add a little dollop of pumkin for extra fiber, cottage cheese for additional calcium, and missing link.

I can't say enough about the raw food diet. I have one dog that is diabetic (thank you very much Frontline) and he was having a hard time until we switched to the raw diet. He perked up after we made the switch and became his old self.
Reply:yeah ...the raw diet from a natropath vet gave my dog a bowl obstruction and had to have surgery...and it wasnt the foods issue because plenty of other dogs were eating it fine, some dogs like mine just cant eat it for some reason. so its not that i dont think shes worth it...i just dont want to have to more surgeries. not only that she is allergic to chicken, her skin inflames and she scratches like crazy every time i feed it to her, so now she eats a salmon based food
Reply:I agree, I've been feeding raw for over 5 years. It does take a little more time and effort and is definitely not something that should be attempted without researching proper nutritional needs. There was a question on YA the other day from a person who had decided to feed raw and wanted to know how much hamburger to give her dog daily. Yikes, people like that are better off feeding a good brand of kibble.
Reply:I tried the raw diet with mine and quickly learned that only one of them flourished on it. So I started feeding Canidae and the are all great. I give the dogs who did bad on raw a can of wet food every couple of days and the one who did good gets some raw food. With the Canidae my dog with skin issues has flourished, no more eating grass and loose stools and they are all more active and happy. If raw worked for my dogs I would do that but since it doesnt I do what I can to make sure they are happy and healthy
Reply:Feed the dog whatever he does well on. You dont have to spend so much time making food to prove you love/care for your animal. Contrary to your statistics (which are made up), most animals do fine on bagged food.
