Skin Irritation on Dogs?

I have 2 mini schnauzers. They needed a hair cut really bad, when i got home from work friday my husband had decided to cut their hair himself. Well he cut ALL of their hair off. They pretty much have a buzz cut, poor dogs its so cold outside!! my problem is their skin is really red and irritated, I would prefer not to take them to the vet if it is something I can take care of myself (my vet is way overpriced) What can I do???

Skin Irritation on Dogs?
Did your husband use clippers? Because it could be clipper burn that they have. My cocker had it once, and I just went to the drugstore and got an ointment that humans use (groomer recommended it). But it was only a small little spot. Maybe for now, either look clipper burn up online and see what they say, or even just shampoo them in some oatmeal shampoo to soothe their skin. Good luck!
Reply:give them a bath in doggie oatmeal bath.and not the hartz one.
Reply:I agree with the above Oatmeal shampoo is very calming to the skin. If it dose not help then a vet visit is in order
Reply:first you should try to find a reasonable vet now to use for the future

also, you have to worry about infections esp if the dogs start scratching. i'd put an antibacterial ointment on the severe red spots.

a groomer did that to my dogs neck, it became green and had pus and he just wanted to scratch it all the time. i had to go to the vet for medicine and the vet had me wash the spot twice a day with special antibacterial, gentle dog soap. it took about a month to heal.
Reply:a lot of dogs have dry skin naturally. pugs are one of them so what I suggest is to take canola oil and litely drizzle it over their food and this will help with dry skin another thing you want to check is the shampoo that is being used on them

good luck
