My dog has been itching a ton lately. She does not have fleas and we werent sure if it is just dry skin. What are some ways to treat dry skin on daogs.
Problem!!!?
its a dog thing its prob just dry skin
Reply:Oatmeal baths. Get special oatmeal made specifically for dogs and when you bath her, allow the shampoo to sit on her for 5-10 minutes before rinsing so the natural moisturizers can be absorbed into the skin. If this doesn't work, the vets will carry a stronger moisturizing shampoo. Good luck.
Reply:But a non dry skin dog shampoo. That is all you need to do.
Reply:Look for shampoo or cream to treat it, if it does not stop ask the vet for something.
Reply:If you aren't sure whether or not it's just dry skin, a vet check is essential. She could have allergies, hot spots, mange, or any number of physical problems causing her intense itching-all of which would need veterinarian assistance.
Reply:My mom used to give her a bath with some special shampoo. You can get it at walgreens:-)
Reply:the dog might be allergic to some in her inverment. She might have to have allerge test. Does her food have red dye init? If it does change it to some dog food that does not have any in it.
Reply:I would try giving her a cool bath with an oatmeal shampoo, being sure to let the shampoo set for at least 5 minutes. And then rinse well. Also, any conditioning shampoo may help, but the oatmeal really helps my dogs. It may also help to put her on an Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid supplement (such as derm caps).
Reply:well..........my greatdane has the same problem...if she doesnt have any fleas then it has to be dry skin...right now my dog has patches all over him cause he itches non stop...so what i use on the worst spots is bag balm...that works wonders for that....another thing you could do is give her some fish oil tablets...you can get them at a walmart in the vitamin section....you could also go to a pet store and find a shampoo that has dry and itchy skin and that works good as well...i hope i helped...good luck and god bless
Reply:Have you changed her food? This can cause itching. Also too many baths,a change in laundry soap. If no changes and not to many baths try head and shoulders but be very careful not to get anywhere NEAR eyes. This soap burns terribly. Otherwise its time to see the vet. They have a shot that works fast. Good Luck
Reply:maybe allergies. my little man "juicy fruit" has allergies and hell bite and bite his hands and paws. i bought calamine lotion and rub it on his hands/feet and that really works
